Retina UK

Retina UK is the only UK charity principally dedicated to supporting people with inherited sight loss. Inherited sight loss conditions result in the progressive but unpredictable loss of vision and the overwhelming majority of them are currently incurable. Their inherited nature of these conditions mean they have implications for entire families. They are also the leading cause of blindness within the working age population.  At Retina UK we are committed to helping people with inherited sight loss live well today. Lived experience is at the heart of what we do as a charity: 25% of our staff live with sight loss. We  offer tailored support services for people facing genetic and progressive sight loss, including our peer groups, outreach with young people and parents, our helpline, Discover Wellbeing platform, and our talk and support befriending service. These are all designed to build confidence, tackle isolation, create connections and uplift people.  Moreover, at Retina UK we also fundraise for and invest in pioneering and  promising medical research to accelerate the search for treatments which would be transformative for our community. This year we are fundraising for cutting-edge projects at King’s College London,  UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, and Edinburgh University.
